This year when I was at PAX East 2017, I was able to get a hands-on first look at the recently announced game called Aftercharge. It's an online three v three teams based shooter game pitting three invisible robots against three invincible enforcers. The goal of the robots is to destroy six extractors dispersed among the map.
For my hands on for the game I was able to do a round as the robots and as the enforcers and let me tell you, there are different play styles for both sides. We started off on the robot side, and both of my teammates went down early in the round. Fortunately, you can revive your robotic allies mid-match, which I did leading to the nickname 'Savior'. We also found out that the only way we can affect the opponents was to punch them from behind sending them several yards into the air in the direction they were facing. We proceeded to sneak around and pull off a victory even with the opponent's team camping around the final point.
The next round we played as the enforcers where our job was to defend the extractor points from the invisible robots. It took us a few moments to realise that to get more ammo for our weapons we had to be within a few feet of the extractors that we were protecting. The enforcers had the main assault rifle and a secondary fire that called down an airstrike after a cool down. We were able to dwindle down their numbers slowly and was able to pull off a second win ending the experience for me.
Overall I enjoyed the game and can't wait to see what they add to Aftercharge down the road. With a tentative release date in 2018, they have plenty of time to add more to the game. When I was there, they mentioned that they plan on adding more characters to choose from, and some other things to the game. So I'll be looking forward to seeing what all of that entails. I hope you enjoyed this first looks at Aftercharge.
