Kickstarter GG #2 – The Lighthouse

Hi everyone, and welcome to our second episode of Kickstarter GG. Today we will be taking a look at another promising project called The Lighthouse, which is currently in mid-alpha and has been in development for over two years. The game has been developed using Unreal Engine 4 and will be available for PC via Steam, Xbox One and PS4. The developers have already declared their intent to support Oculus Rift and HTC VR technologies, provided they get sufficient funding.

The Lighthouse, a game by Shadow Knights Studio is focused around subtlety, atmosphere, and supernatural occurrences rather than jump-scaring the player constantly. The Lighthouse is heavily focused on exploration and solving puzzles that revolve around the use of light and the lighthouse to progress. The game appears that it will be a good challenge for the mind while also keeping you tensely on the edge of your seat waiting for the next unusual occurrence.

The player is taken back to the 1960s in Maine, USA and placed in the shoes of a former detective turned private investigator called Irvine. Irvine is a man who typically ends up with cases the city simply cannot be bothered to follow-up on. Every year on the 19th of February Irvine mourns the loss of his first born child, Lily, however in 1964 his usual routine is disrupted when he is sent a letter from Elizabeth Beaumont asking for his help is searching for her daughter, also called Lily, who was involved in an incident at a lighthouse two years prior. Irvine, being curious, takes on the case and from there, the player takes control in the hunt to find Lily and unearth the secrets of the lighthouse and the Wescott property.

The game strikes me to be in the same vein as games such as Alan Wake, Dear Esther and Silent Hill. If you want to see for yourself, then there is a playable alpha already available to all backers, which you can find on their Kickstarter page, and a download for all available via Indiedb.com. If you would like to see the alpha before backing or without playing, well, there is always their reaction reel video which is freely available to all on the Kickstarter campaign’s main page. The game is due for release in October 2017 provided no delays, and it appears there have been none so far.

At the time of writing this article, the project has already raised over $25,000 surpassing its $10,000 goal with five days left. The project has several stretch goals of which one has already been reached. The stretch goal reached is called The Shining, which will expand on the story and provides another location to explore and is inspired by The Shining, which is a major influence on the project. I have been taking the time to explore this project in-depth, both inspecting what the footage that is available, as well as their plans for the remainder of the development cycle. I hope that this project will succeed. It certainly appears competent. The developers appear to be receptive and responsive to backers with regular updates, and I look forward to hopefully playing it later this year when it is finally released. Don’t forget to go check out The Lighthouse Kickstarter page, their website and also follow the developer on Twitter for updates on the project.

Thank you very much for taking the time to check out this article and video; I hope you have found it both informative and entertaining. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts down in the comment section. I will respond to as many as I can and look forward to discussing this project with you. Till next time, bye!

In a recent statement by EA, announcements were made regarding the state of Mass Effect Andromeda and its future. EA stated that support for the single-player part of Mass Effect Andromeda has been cancelled with a small team continuing to support multiplayer. Patch 1.10 will be the last patch for the game and the developers behind the game are to be moved on to other projects. Understandably, many gamers are infuriated, including various gaming related…
