A new rumour has surfaced regarding the next Far Cry game. The well-established series by Ubisoft has seen us be taken to Africa, tropical islands, the Himalayas and even a primal version of Earth. However, it looks like the next iteration is taking a whole new turn. According to a leak, Ubisoft is planning for the next Far Cry game to be a western theme. In addition to one source for that leak a further confirmation comes from a film crew who were spotted at a Church in north-eastern Montana. The crew were according to sources were recording scenes for a video game’s promotional material. The Producer, Jeff Guillot, who was with a filming team of 11 stated that “This is a sequel to an existing global franchise”. The information we have suggests it highly unlikely that this relates to Red Dead Redemption 2.

This differing theme sounds like an awesome idea in concept and direction for Far Cry, but I do have my fears about how they are going to implement it. The rumours hint that the new Far Cry game could be coming in just a couple months or for the Christmas rush during the latter part of fall of this year. The more concerning part of this, however, is it appears Ubisoft are looking to compete with Red Dead Redemption 2, another western themed game, and could be planning to release it the same week.

Ubisoft has tried similar moves in the recent past with games last year being clump released and around the same time as other major titles by other publishers. This resulted has no doubt heavily drowned their titles amongst all the noise and hype of two well established popular franchises and potentially impacted sales. We were hoping Ubisoft had learnt their lesson, but it would appear not.

It seems the publishing giant is keen to compete yet again directly and this time with one of the most anticipated games of 2017. I can understand that developers and publisher want to cash in on trending game topics, but I feel in the event they do go toe to toe Far Cry really will not stand a chance given how anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 is and the strong reputation its developer has. I can only assume they are banking on sales off the back of people being in a westerns kind of mood and taking a chance on it, but if people are only able to afford one of the two I feel many will opt for Red Dead Redemption 2 over Far Cry. I believe this will be the case especially given that Far Cry Primal, the most recently released in the Far Cry series, was not particularly strong and was subject to some controversy due to its map being a re-skin of the map from Far Cry 4. Whether re-using maps from previous games is a good or practise is a debate for another time but at the time it certainly didn’t help Far Cry Primal’s release.

If Ubisoft does follow through with going head-to-head with Red Dead Redemption 2 or even release it this year in general, we speculate that we are likely to see the next Far Cry revealed officially at this year’s E3 which is in June. Hopefully, we will see it at E3, but for Ubisoft’s sake, I hope they opt for a Christmas release or an early next year release.

When we find out more information about the game, we will, of course, let you know. Have you played previous Far Cry games? Looking forward to a new one? Let us know in the comments below.

Hi everyone, A lot has happened over the last three months, and I think it is about time I need to announce a couple of things I had been holding off on declaring till they were finalised. Because there is so much to go through, I will be splitting this across two or three posts over the next couple days. I understand that some aspects of the news/announcements may seem drastic, but do not be…

In a recent statement by EA, announcements were made regarding the state of Mass Effect Andromeda and its future. EA stated that support for the single-player part of Mass Effect Andromeda has been cancelled with a small team continuing to support multiplayer. Patch 1.10 will be the last patch for the game and the developers behind the game are to be moved on to other projects. Understandably, many gamers are infuriated, including various gaming related…

Hi, everyone! First of all, I wish to apologise for the lack of content this month. Due to my mother being taken critically ill and in hospital on life support, I have had to focus on family, and the result of that has been no content. Things are still a bit touch and go, but I need to return to work regardless. The team and I are working hard to get back on track. To…

In China, a new law is being introduced on the 1st of May 2017 which will force game developers who make games feature boxes to reveal the chances of getting each item so that consumers can make informed purchase decisions. Loot boxes or crates for those who are unaware feature in games such as League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Overwatch. Such boxes have gained popularity in recent years with a growing trend toward…
In recent news, it looks like Rockstar’s next project may be a sequel to the well-received game Bully from back in October 2006. There have been long-circulating rumours about a Bully sequel, and many fans have been dying to get their hands on a follow-up to what was a fantastic game. As it stands Rockstar’s next game for release is Red Dead Redemption 2 which has also been long awaited. However, it seems that Rockstar…
On the 28th April 2017 at Phoenix Airport the FBI and police entered a plane in response to a call claiming that there was a bomb onboard the flight. Although the FBI believed that the call had come from Ice Poseidon, a Twitch streamer/live vlogger it is alleged that the call, in fact, came from someone who watches his Livestream. The act of calling the police and claiming that there is a serious event in…
Activision, Oh Activision! Well, it’s time to state the obvious. Call of Duty is a series that is in dire need of reinvention or face its inevitable retirement to the graveyard of tired old game franchises, probably a landscape stroon with plastic instruments and the corpses of ex-EA developers! So recently the trailer for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare DLC (Shaolin Shuffle) hit the internet, and well people are noticing something very odd. The new…

YouTube has recently updated its partner and monetization requirements. Previously anyone could sign up and monetise their videos via Adsense, however following the changes made only channels with over 10,000 views total on their channel will be able to monetise. Initially, there was some lack of clarity as some members of the public thought this meant 10,000 views per video but we can confirm this isn’t the case; it is strictly 10,000 views on the…

Gearbox Software shocked many with an out of the blue message addressing G2A about their practices and impact on the gaming industry. Having recently announced that Gearbox Software had a promotional partnership deal for a collectors edition of Bulletstorm with G2A this seems like an unlikely turn of events.
